Curriculum

At Lorenzo Walker Technical High School (LWTHS), students are expected to attend classes for the full school day, which runs from 7:15 AM to 1:50 PM. However, Collier County Public Schools (CCPS) allows eligible juniors and seniors to have an abbreviated schedule under specific circumstances.

General Guidelines for Abbreviated Schedules

  • The option for an abbreviated schedule must be exercised within the first 10 days of the semester.

  • Students with abbreviated schedules are not allowed to remain on campus during unscheduled times, including in classrooms, the courtyard, or the lobby, while other students are in class.
    • Students remaining on campus due to transportation constraints will be assigned to an on-campus study hall.

  • No-credit blocks are limited to the 1st and 4th blocks, as per district policy. This limitation may mean that not all requests for a reduced schedule can be accommodated as there are limited capacities to accommodate students in 2nd and 3rd block courses.

11th Grade Requirements

Students must enroll in 4 blocks per day during both the fall and spring semesters. This includes:

  • 2 blocks of technical courses at Lorenzo Walker Technical College (LWTC).
  • 2 blocks of academic courses at the high school.

Students enrolled part-time (11 or fewer credits) at Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW) must maintain a schedule equivalent to at least 4 blocks per day.

  • 2 blocks of technical courses at LWTC
  • 2 blocks of academic courses at FSW or a combination of FSW and LWTHS. Full-credit courses at FSW replace 1 block, and two half-credit FSW courses combined also replace 1 block.

Students enrolled full-time (more than 12 credits) at FSW may not take high school courses but will continue their LWTC courses as scheduled.

12th Grade Requirements

Seniors enrolled part-time (12 or fewer credits) at FSW must maintain a schedule equivalent to at least 3 blocks per day.

  • 2 blocks of technical courses at LWTC.
  • At least 1 block of academic courses at FSW or LWTHS.

Seniors enrolled full-time (more than 12 credits) at FSW may not take high school courses but will continue their LWTC courses as scheduled.

Certain seniors who are not taking classes at FSW may qualify to reduce their course load to 3 blocks per day and 1 block with no credit. The criteria for this reduction must be met by the first day of the semester and are as follows:

  • Passing the 10th-grade ELA F.A.S.T. or earning a concordant test score.
  • Passing the Algebra 1 EOC or earning a concordant test score.
  • Earning an acceleration point through coursework or certification.
  • Being on track to meet graduation requirements.

To be considered on track for graduation, students must have completed:

  • 3 credits in English Language Arts.
  • 4 credits in Math. o 3 credits in Science.
  • 1 credit in World History.
  • 1 credit in U.S. History

Note: Beginning with the 2025–2026 school year, eligible 12th-grade students may reduce their course load to 3 blocks per day with 1 no-credit block available in either the first or second semester, but not both.
